Logging in MPM versions prior to 4.x were geared towards auditing while all versions 4.0 and above are designed to help facilitate troubleshooting. Therefore events are generated for both aspects of logging. There are events for credential activities along with events based around the various features in the product. Do you have any specific logging/events in question?

MPM does not facilitate sending events to a file rather than the system event log. However I believe there are 3rd party logging tools which can provide you this functionality.

Additionally support logging is available for advanced troubleshooting which is written to a file.
