Citrix Licensing how Citrix handle license issue

Bryan Tang how Citrix handle license issue
———————————–
Hi there,

I am thinking of using Citrix to provide secure access to our application for remote users. But there are someting I am not clear how Citrix can handle them. First, our application is a 3-Tier database application which uses MS SQL server as the back end. My question is how Citrix or MSAM can control the number of users access to our SQL server, and how Citrix or MSAM can assist us to enforce the licensing control to our front-end applications(VB/VC++)which are supposed to be accessed by remote users anywhere through Citrix infrastructure. For example, I’d like to allow only 5 remote users can access those applications at the same time. Our current mechanism is working fine in the LAN, but is it working in the same way under Citrix Access Suit or else?

Does anyone have any ideas about that? As we don’t have any experience of Citrix, if the problems above can be handled well, we could consider integrating Citrix solution to our application.

Thanks very much,

help4ctx MetaFrame Presentation Server has a couple of features which can be used to limit the number of connections. Firstly, by using the ‘Application Limit’ functionality of a published application you can limit a user to a single instance of an application. Secondly, by using the ‘Application User Load’ load evaluator you can also limit the number of instances of an application on a specific server.

Lastly, by leveraging the Workspace Control features of Presentation Server 3.0 and Web Interface 3.0 you can further control how a single application instance follows a user within your organisation. For example, you could have your application forced to follow the user wherever they login, preventing multiple access.

These features are not designed for license control, but should go some way to doing what you ask.

As usual, I would advise some kind of ‘proff on concept’ to be sure that all of these features meet your requirements.
