citrix3 XTE Server Service Errors

Jamie Gleeson I recently upgraded our test Farm from MF XP FR3 to MPS 3. When I boot the server, the XTE shows errors in the Windows event log of Event ID 7024 in the system log and 3299 in the application log. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris Butler I am having the same problem, at first there were 2 servers in our farm with published apps, all working well. We moved our servers within our server room, which involved having the whole farm down for the duration of the move (approx 5 mins) (Our farm was not yet live to users) After bringing the servers back up the XTE service as not started and I am getting the error stated above.

I am running Metaframe Presentation server 3.0 fresh install - no upgrade on windows 2003 standard server.

If anyone has any idea how to solve this, please help!!!!

Regards,

Chris.

Brian Gavin I am getting the exact same error. I checked to make sure the c:\program files\citrix\xte folder was not hidden and it is not hidden. Any other suggestions on why this service is unable to start?

Nick Laurino I have checked all the ‘resolutions’ posted here and none of them apply. I have 2 MetaFrame Pres 3.0, on W2003 servers. After rebooting them this weekend, only one of them reports:

‘The Citrix XTE Server service terminated with service-specific error 1′

Users can connect to published apps and desktops using ICA files created from the management console, but creating custom connections in Program Neighborhood will not work.

The server appears to running fine otherwise, but this will be an issue if the second server is taken offline for any reason.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Peter David What version of PS3 are you running?

When IMA starts up it tries to get a valid license from the License Server, if it finds that you are only running ‘Standard Edition’, XTE wont start, unless you have also configured the SSL Relay service (which is now handled by XTE). In this case XTE will handle SSL Relay, but wont provide Session Reliability.

If for some reason IMA cannot get a license the XTE Server service will fail to start (if the server already has a license and is in the ‘grace period’ of 30 days, XTE will still start). So, be sure you have the relevant licenses installed. In this case, you will see the 0×1 error and two other Event Id 3299 event log errors.

Also, be sure that nothing else on the server is using port 443, as a conflict here will also cause XTE to fail. XTE checks that 443 is available in case the SSL Relay is configured.

Nick Laurino Our issue was resolved. Accidently got on the XP forum and posted the issue, and when checking on one of the replies, I noticed that the ICA, Documents, and XTE folder were all assigned the ‘hidden’ attrib by the MF (MetaFrame) gremlins.

After removing this from these folders, all worked as it should.

Just FYI, our installation was ‘new’ not an upgrade and this is the first issue I have had. Guess I should have had another cup of coffee before posting, but I appreciate all the help.

Thanks
