citrix3 Hanging Applications - Event ID 1002

Shawn Thobe We are receiving alot of Event ID 1002 - Hanging applications since going to 2003 server, MPS 3.0 and Office 2003. The applications are normally Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MSAccess, but i have seen crystal reports and a few others. We use Trend Server protect for antivirus. AD-Aware is also installed but not running in realtime. I’ve also installed the Google Toolbar (I only mention that because i saw a posting about custom toolbars being a possible issue. I’m not buying it but who knows) Below is some samples of the events:

Hanging application POWERPNT.EXE, version 11.0.6361.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0×00000000.

super pippo Here this problem was solved by patching Office 2003 with Service Pack 2. If you have Proofing Tools there is a Service Pack 2 for them as well.

We are having the same problem across all of our servers for all applications.

does this behaviour recur every time you restart the server or occur just once after the installation of the software.

In the first case I would check if the software needs some kind of helper process which is started during the login process of a user. E.g. FreePDF is showing similar behaviour.
The problem might be that neither startup folder nor any of the diverse run keys in the registry is processed if you start an application in seamless mode.
The topic “How do I configure SendFAX to work in Citrix Published Application Mode” on http://www.faxserver.com/support/faqs/answers/install_e.htm describes two ways to work around this problem.

in that case I doubt that the workaround will help.

Does the local user have higher privileges than the users connecting to the desktop?
Maybe it’s about some dynamic library that must be loaded on startup of the program. I had something like that with SAP and a set of .ocx files. We had to change the installation routine to register the files generally.

But I would expect some error message in that case.
Did you check application log as well as system log for hints? Does the software have its own logfiles?
