citrix4Published Web W/ActiveX

Craig Molnar I’m running a Citrix Presentation server 4.0 on Windows Server 2003 IE6 (Ehanced security uninstalled)

I’d like to publish some web content that requires users to install ActiveX controls. Of course the users do not have admin rights. When they launch the page they get this (in the case of lotusweb mail)”The Installation of Domino Web Access 7 Control has been blocked or declined by the user…”

I’ve done some looking around the web and all i can really find is this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/280579

My questions is, is this really the only way to make ActiveX controls availble?? Surely there is some solution that does not require Visual Studio and creating MSI files?

Craig Molnar I wish that would work, unfortunantley, i was in install mode when it was first installed. So that’s not it. =(

Charles Stivali Have you tried modifying the zone security to permit ActiveX controls? You can setup a policy via gpedit.msc (open \User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Security). If you go into Security Zones and Content Ratings in the same manner as you would do for an individual IE session. Assuming the ActiveX control is coming from a single site, it would be best to add it to the Trusted Sites zone and modify the security appropriately.

Dale Corpron Is your site using GPO’s? We had a similar issue (not on Citrix) that required a slight GPO re-write for our users to install ActiveX content.

Try running gpedit (or gpmc if you have it) and checking Computer Config/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Internet Exploder/Security Features/Restrict ActiveX Install

One of these may be blocking the users from installing. These setting will also overwrite your registry keys if the domain policy is enforced.
