Citrix Licensing Use ICA & RDP sessions on same server?

Nick Duddy Hi,

I haven’t used Citrix for some time (since about 2001) so am a little out of touch but considering the platform for a new requirement.

Basically, I’ve got just over 100 low complexity users on a single Windows 2003 Terminal Server using basic RDP. This suits most of them as they don’t spend a great deal of time using the system, just light Office and email usage a few times a day. About 10 of them however do spend most of their day in this environment and for them the performance issues of basic terminal services are unacceptable.

It’s out of the question for me to fully licence this server to move everyone to Citrix, and equally I don’t have a case for a seperate ‘Citrix’ server for these 10 users.

Is it possible to simply licence Citrix XenApp for 10 users on this single server and let the special users move to ICA but let the other 90 continue to use RDP?

Thanks,

Nick.

Nick Duddy Thanks Ken.

And can I take it it’s a been a deliberate change and not something that can be hacked out with a patch or changing some setting?

If not, this unfortunatley rules Citrix out as a solution for me. I was relying on being able to start small and grow ICA users as required. I received my XenApp 5 eval kit last week so I suppose I’ll save my effort and leave it in the wrapper.
